Programme Overview

The Level 4 Diploma in Information Technology is designed to provide learners with a strong foundational knowledge across key areas of IT, including PC maintenance, programming, and database management. This diploma equips students for entry-level IT roles or progression to higher-level studies in specialised fields such as networking, software development, and web design. It combines practical and theoretical learning to foster essential technical skills for the modern IT industry.

Correspondence

Equivalent to the first year of a 3-year Bachelor’s degree in the UK and comparable to the first year of undergraduate studies internationally (US, Canada, Asia, and Europe).

Aims of the Diploma

The qualification aims to:

  • Develop technical knowledge in core areas of IT, including operating systems, ethics, and database management.
  • Enable learners to apply analytical and evaluative skills in a variety of IT contexts.
  • Support progression into technical positions or higher-level IT study pathways.

Admission Requirements

  • Typical Age: 18+
  • Prior Qualifications:  A GCE Advanced level profile with achievement in 2 or more subjects, a Level 3 qualification in IT or a related field, or an Access to Higher Education Certificate from an approved institution. 
  • International Qualifications: Equivalent qualifications may include:
    • High school diplomas or equivalent secondary qualifications in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas.
  • English Proficiency (for non-native speakers): IELTS 5.5, CEFR level B2, or equivalent​.

Structure of the Qualification

  • Total Credits: 120 ECTS
  • Modules: Learners must complete four core units and select two electives, achieving a total of 120 credits.

Core Modules

  1. Information Technology and IT Ethics (20 Credits): Covers fundamental IT concepts and ethical issues.
  2. Mathematics and Statistics for IT (20 Credits): Introduces mathematical and statistical tools relevant to IT applications.
  3. PC Maintenance and Operating Systems (20 Credits): Focuses on hardware, software maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  4. Computer Graphics Editing and Database Concepts (20 Credits): Addresses database management and essential graphics editing techniques.

Elective Modules

Choose any two from the following electives:

  1. Logical IT Networking (20 Credits)
  2. Physical IT Networking (20 Credits)
  3. Web Design 1 (20 Credits)
  4. Web Programming (20 Credits)
  5. Graphical User Interface (GUI) (20 Credits)
  6. Programming Concepts and Java for Android Programming (20 Credits)

Assessment and  Regulations 

Assessment Approach

Each module is assessed through written assignments, practical applications, and case studies:

  • Written Assignments: Evaluate comprehension of core and specialised IT concepts.
  • Practical Tasks: Assess technical competencies in programming, data management, and IT system maintenance.
Grading System

Grades are awarded as Pass, Merit, or Distinction:

  • Pass: 40%-59%
  • Merit: 60%-69%
  • Distinction: 70% and above
Completion Requirements

All modules require a minimum pass mark of 40%. Assessment quality is assured through internal and external review by Awarding Body.
