Programme Overview

The Level 5 Diploma in Information Technology is designed for learners who aim to advance their knowledge and skills within IT, focusing on areas such as programming, systems administration, and network security. Correspondence

Equivalent to the second year of a 3-year Bachelor’s degree in the UK and comparable to the second year of undergraduate studies internationally (US, Canada, Asia, and Europe).

Admission Requirements

  • Typical Age: 18+
  • Entry Requirements: Successful completion of a Level 4 qualification in IT or related fields, or relevant work experience with demonstrated responsibilities in the field, is required.
  • International Qualifications: Equivalent qualifications may include:
    • A high school diploma or recognised pre-university certification, plus at least one year of post-secondary study or additional course credits(e.g., Grade 12 followed by college-level course in Asia, Senior Certificate with further post-secondary education in Africa, Advanced Certificate or EQF Level 4 plus additional academic credits in Europe, or a high school diploma plus college-level or Advanced Placement(AP) in the US/Canada).
  • English Proficiency (for non-native speakers): IELTS 5.5, CEFR level B2, or equivalent.

Structure of the Qualification

  • Total Credits: 120 ECTS
  • Modules: Learners must complete four core units and select two electives, achieving a total of 120 credits.

Core Modules

  1. Technopreneurship (20 Credits): Focuses on entrepreneurial skills within the tech industry, including innovation, start-up strategies, and project management.
  2. Network Security (20 Credits): Covers security principles, including encryption, firewalls, and secure data practices within networking contexts.
  3. C#.NET Programming (20 Credits): Develops advanced programming skills, emphasising object-oriented programming and application development in C#.
  4. System Administration (20 Credits): Teaches system management, including configurations, troubleshooting, and network infrastructure maintenance.

Elective Modules

Learners choose two of the following options to complete the 120 credits:

  1. Network Routing and Switching (20 Credits)
  2. Network Design and Administration (20 Credits)
  3. Content Management Systems (20 Credits)
  4. Web Design 2 (20 Credits)
  5. Business-to-Business (B2B) E-commerce (20 Credits)
  6. Business-to-Consumer (B2C) E-commerce (20 Credits)

Assessment and  Regulations 

Assessment Approach

Each module is assessed through written assignments, case studies, and practical applications: 

  • Written Assignments: Each unit includes assignments that test applied knowledge of IT concepts.
  • Case Studies: Practical scenarios for problem-solving within network security, system administration, and e-commerce.
  • Practical Applications: Assignments that emphasize technical skills, particularly in programming and network management.
Grading System

Grades are awarded as Pass, Merit, or Distinction:

  • Pass: 40%-59%
  • Merit: 60%-69%
  • Distinction: 70% and above
Completion Requirements

Learners must achieve a minimum score of 40% in each unit, with assessments subject to internal and external quality assurance by Awarding Body.

Professional Development and Progression

Progress to Higher-Level Study:
  • Entry to the final year of a Bachelor’s degree in IT or equivalent programs, subject to university requirements.
