Programme Overview

The Level 5 Diploma in Computing is designed to provide learners with critical skills in areas such as Cyber Security, Database Design, and Web Development. This diploma prepares students for higher-level studies and entry-level roles in computing. Through practical assignments and theoretical learning, learners apply computing principles and industry standards in real-world scenarios, building essential technical skills for various computing fields.

Correspondence

Equivalent to the second year of a 3-year Bachelor’s degree in the UK and comparable to the second year of undergraduate studies internationally (US, Canada, Asia, and Europe).

Admission Requirements

  • Typical Age: 18+
  • Entry Requirements: Ideally, a Level 4 qualification in Computing or a related field, or relevant work experience with demonstrated responsibilities in the field, is required.
  • International Qualifications: Equivalent qualifications may include:
    • A high school diploma or recognised pre-university certification, plus at least one year of post-secondary study or additional course credits(e.g., Grade 12 followed by college-level course in Asia, Senior Certificate with further post-secondary education in Africa, Advanced Certificate or EQF Level 4 plus additional academic credits in Europe, or a high school diploma plus college-level or Advanced Placement(AP) in the US/Canada).
  • English Proficiency (for non-native speakers): IELTS 5.5, CEFR level B2, or equivalent.

  • Total Credits: 120 ECTS
  • Modules: 10 mandatory modules, each worth 12 credits, delivering comprehensive coverage of essential computing topics.

  4. Network Design (12 Credits): Introduces IT network design principles based on client briefs and practical requirements.
  5. Ethical, Legal and Regulatory Issues and Professional Responsibilities in IT (12 Credits): Explores ethical, legal, and regulatory standards in IT environments.
  6. Strategic Management Information Systems (12 Credits): Examines the role of information systems in organizational strategy and decision-making.

Assessment and  Regulations 

Assessment Approach

Each module requires a written assignment to assess comprehension and the practical application of core computing principles. The assessment methods include: 

  • Written Assignments: Required for each module, these assignments evaluate learners’ understanding and application of key concepts.
  • Project-Based Assessments: Practical tasks related to project work, such as database design, network setup, and software development.
  • Case Studies and Research Reports: These assignments engage learners in research and analysis to solve computing challenges in realistic scenarios. 
Grading System

Grades are awarded as Pass or Fail:

  • PassLearners must meet all learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each module to the required standard.
Completion Requirements

Learners must pass all ten modules to achieve the diploma. Each unit requires a minimum Pass mark, and assessments are internally marked and externally moderated by Awarding Body to ensure quality and consistency.

Progress to Higher-Level Study:
  • Direct entry to the final year of a Bachelor’s degree in computing-related fields at various universities, subject to individual institution requirements.
